"Hey, Larry, I know we have a release tonight, but there's information missing and if we don't get it int he next hour, there's no release." Fine, interrupt me. But if a developer interrupts me because they can't figure out how to implement a small piece, when there are other pieces that can be done, I get a little frustrated. In that type of scenario, I much prefer the IM/email of "hey, reach out when you get a chance. I have a question about..."Larry Gasikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09106462814011682487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-869669109652909929.post-89956694198480345152019-04-12T11:11:23.482-05:002019-04-12T11:11:23.482-05:00I think you need to look at it on an individual ba...I think you need to look at it on an individual basis, and the context of the information being communicated.

For example, the other day I had a PR I wanted reviewed. I didn't care if it took 3 days to get reviewed. I had time. I sent an email. The one doing the PR doesn't need to get interrupted. I'll mention it in the stand ups that I need it done soon. But to be honest, I'm not in a rush most of the time.

It takes about 25 minutes to regain focus after a distraction: https://lifehacker.com/how-long-it-takes-to-get-back-on-track-after-a-distract-1720708353

If your email is clogged up, you need to do something to reduce the number of automated emails you receive or are distracted by. I don't need emails every time a story is updated, that's what my stand ups are for. It is why there is a system that documents everything in one place for tickets. If I need to know why, I can check myself. Heck, I often close down my email for an hour at a time, and book myself a meeting because too often I get people distracting me for information that isn't urgent or can wait.Larry Gasikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09106462814011682487noreply@blogger.com
